Quote of the month

"I serve as a blank screen on which people of vastly different political stripes project their own views." - Barack Obama, presidential candidate 2008. Could he really be that honest?

Quotes of the week

There are numerous great quotes in the fascinating and much needed bestseller by Jonah Goldberg, "Liberal Fascism", but here are two good ones I just remembered to copy:

Fascists famously ruled by terror. Political correctness isn't literally terroristic, but it does govern through fear. No serious person can deny that the grievance politics of the American left keeps decent people in a constant state of fright--they are afraid to say the wrong word, utter the wrong thought, offend the wrong constituency.

But if there is ever a fascist takeover in America, it will come not in the form of storm troopers kicking down doors but with lawyers and social workers saying, "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."

Quote of the week

The ideologies of "self-esteem" and "multiculturalism" are two sides of the same nihilistic coin. "Self-esteem" devalues achievement and responsibility, which are the sources of genuine self-respect. And "multiculturalism" it is merely a pose of opposition to one's own culture; it entails no real regard for different cultures. -- James Taranto

Quote of the day

"There's something pathological about the liberal need to belittle and demean everything about a person they disagree with in any regard." - Simon, a commenter on Ann Athouse's blog. You nailed it, brother!

Quote of the season

"Republicans deserve to lose, but the Democrats don't deserve to win" - Professor Bainbridge.  (via InstaPundit)

Quote of the week

A commenter Rorshach under a post in Protein Wisdom on the death of Oriana Fallaci:

"Small blurbs in Reuters and AP about her. That’s all they have to say on the subject, of course. When Noam fucking Chomsky dies, though, they’ll be writing about him 24 hours a day for three weeks."

Indeed.
